This is a candid image from Sara and Elliot's wedding. Sara had just finished getting her dress on and her daughter Blake came crawling over to get a better look at mom. I was actually taking a photo of Sara's mom pinning a corsage on her dad when my wife told me to turn around. I honestly had 2-3 seconds before Blake moved away. This has to be one of my favourite candid images from a wedding. The emotion coming from both Sara and Blake gets me emotional every time I look at this image. I envision Blake looking at this photo 20 years from now or even on her own wedding day and it makes me feel proud to call myself a wedding photographer. We have since tried to recreate this image with different weddings and some have turned out really well but this was the image that started it all. We hold a contest every year and ask our followers to vote for their favourite photo. This was the winner for 2014.
The photo was taken in Sara and Elliot's house on the morning of their winter wedding. Their reception was held at The ATB Financial Arts Barn located at 10330 84 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2G9. The phone number is (780) 448-9000. There is paid parking available and make sure you do pay as it is heavily monitored because it is so close to Whyte Ave. I used a Canon 7D and a Canon 24-70mm 2.8L series lens to capture this image.
The only difficulties I experienced trying to capture this image was trying to balance the ambient light in the house against the light coming from the large window. I did not want to overexpose Sara's face.
