Photographing this first dance at the Art Gallery in Edmonton; either between a couple, father daughter or mother son, is honestly one of my favourite parts of the night. There’s something about that perfect song that is chosen that just feels right for that relationship - one that gives me goosebumps and makes my eyes leak. After being with the couple all day and spending time with their families, we are able to get a sense of how important these important people are to each other. So much emotion has built up throughout the day. After all the formal stuff is done, now is usually when the bride, groom, mother, father can just let loose. But, one last formality, the first dance (or parent dances). What we try to tell our couples is to pretend like you are the only ones in the room, embrace, cuddle, listen to the lyrics of the song that you both carefully picked. This whole day that you have been planning for for so long is here and you did it. You’re married! And to the parents, we say let those eyes leak (makes for great photos!) and embrace your babies, tell them how proud you are of them and how much they mean to you. Enjoy the moment and all the moments to come.
