The University of Alberta Botanic Garden is located on Highway 60 just outside of Devon, Alberta.
It is the largest botanical garden in Alberta. The garden was opened in 1959 by the University of Alberta.
We met Nicole at Bridal Fantasy in Edmonton during the 2014 January show in Edmonton, AB. We had the opportunity to sit down with Darren and Nicole a few months later after they had booked their venue at the Devonian Botanic Gardens. This amazing venue is located 5km north of Devon at 51227 AB-60 Parkland County, Alberta T7Y 1C5, phone number (780) 987-3054. We were extremely excited to show them some of our past weddings from that venue. .Their wedding took place at the beginning of summer on Saturday June 6th, 2015. Both the bride and groom got ready in Stony Plain, AB. We were very lucky to have gorgeous weather for the wedding. There was a bit of overcast during the ceremony, and the sun was shining bright for the wedding portraits. After shooting at a few different locations around the Japanese Gardens, we found a nice spot at the top of a hill. It was near the giant bell in the gardens and was in the shade to give the wedding party a break from the sun. In this image we wanted to capture an edgy portrait of just the bride. It was taken around 3:00pm so the sun was still almost directly above us. This image was created to give Nicole a great portrait that featured her in her beautiful wedding dress. We posed her on the bench and popped some light on her using a reflector. I was using a Canon 5D Mark III with a 70-200mm, 2.8L series lens. As for difficulties I would say managing the reflector carefully so we did not blow out the skin. The process for this image was to get the pose down first and then work on lighting her correctly.
